This is a Wajima lacquerware bowl from the Meiji era (1868-1912). Despite its age, it remains in excellent condition. The lid features gold maki-e, which is a traditional Japanese lacquerware technique that involves decorating the surface of lacquered objects with gold powder.

The interior is finished in brown, while the exterior is coated with rich green lacquer known as “seishitsu”.
