Kawatsura Lacquerware Soup Bowl Set – Ivy Motif in Red & Black

Kawatsura Lacquerware Soup Bowl Set – Ivy Motif in Red & Black

川連漆器 夫婦 吸物椀 蔦

This exquisite set of red and black lacquerware soup bowls features a graceful ivy vine motif, symbolizing vitality and good fortune in Japanese tradition. Ivy, with its upward-reaching growth and enduring strength, is often associated with longevity and auspicious occasions.

Crafted by artisans in Kawatsura, Akita Prefecture, each bowl is made using the hana-nuri technique—a traditional method of applying multiple layers of lacquer by hand without polishing. This creates a soft, organic sheen and a subtly textured surface unique to handcrafted lacquerware.

The lidded design helps preserve warmth and aroma, making it ideal for soups and broths. When the lid is turned over, a delicate gold maki-e ivy leaf is revealed inside—a quiet detail that reflects Japanese refinement and the beauty of discovery.

Made from natural wood and coated with layers of pure urushi lacquer, these bowls combine elegance, durability, and comfort. Lacquerware naturally resists heat transfer, keeping the exterior pleasantly warm while maintaining the ideal temperature of the contents within.

Material: Natural wood with urushi lacquer
Technique: Hana-nuri and maki-e
Care: Hand wash only. Avoid microwave and dishwasher use.

Size: 5.1" x 5.1" x 2.5"
