Samurai Armor and Helmets
Samurai Armor and Helmets
鎧兜 平飾り 雅峰作
This is a luxurious set that includes a finely detailed suit of armor with a sword, bow, folding screen, and display stand. The folding screen features a hawk perched on a pine branch and a series of mountain ranges, both symbols of good fortune. The display stand is made of sturdy paulownia wood with a rich lacquer finish.
In Japan, these miniature armor sets, known as "Gogatsu Ningyo," are displayed during the Boys' Festival on May 5th. They are meant to protect boys from illness and misfortune and to wish for their strong and healthy growth.
To preserve the traditional craft of making these festival dolls, there is a certification system for skilled artisans. This particular piece is crafted by the second-generation master artisan, Gaho, a certified festival doll craftsman.
